HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER?

Since June 2005

HOW DID YOU MEET?

My room mate had orinally gone to a party with Darren as her friendly-date and when they came back to her place, she introduced me to him and later exclaimed "you should have met him ages ago...he's totally the male version of you!" That night, Darren and I ended up talking until five in the morning and even to this day, I couldn't have agreed more with my room mate.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE THE MOST ABOUT HER/HIS CULTURE?

Darren: Subtly, the "air of mystery" that accompanies Japanese culture because they are a fairly reserved culture.

Maria: Strong sense of duty, loyalty and dedication. Since he's part Japanese, this is strengthened by his Taiwanese values.

WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE OR FIND PECULIAR ABOUT HER/HIS CULTURE?

Darren: I don't dislike tihs, but I do find the aspect of unfailing family loyalty within the Japanese culture quite fascinating. No matter what, she's always there for her siblings and parent's at a moment's notice.

Maria: Nothing at all...I love learning about Taiwanese culture.

HOW DID YOUR PARENTS REACT ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP?

Darren: They were very pleased, especially my mother.

Maria: They were happy. Especially since he's part Japanese!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD OR DISH FROM HER/HIS CULTURE?

Darren: Tonkatsu-fried pork cutlets. I can't get enough of that stuff when I'm at her house!

Maria: Clam broth with radish and clams ("Ha Ma Tung") and deep-fried oysters. The food is quite similar to Chinese food!

WHAT WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS?

Darren: I'm a very ambitious person, driven by my goal-setting ways.

Maria: I'm ultra-ambitious, incredibly loyal, socially liberal, and fiscally conservative.

WHAT WOULD SHE/HE DESCRIBE YOU AS?

Darren: Considerate, easy-going, and loyal

Maria: Ambitious, tender, altruistic, and dedicated.
