Chinese takeout-inspired art

In Mandarin ‘da bao’ refers to take-out food. In Surrey Art Gallery’s (Da Bao)(Takeout), food and art connect in a group exhibition exploring the cross-cultural and social dynamic between China and the West, specifically Canada. The exhibit focuses on the work of artists who investigate and adapt ideas from abroad into their practices. The artworks are inspired by shadow theatre, mushroom farming, tai chi, urban development, cooking, and rickshaw design.
(Da bao)(Takeout) runs until March 23, 2014. In conjunction with (Da bao)(Takout), the Surrey Art Gallery is hosting Influx, an evening of music, contemporary dance, spoken word, and performance art on Friday March 14 from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. For more information, visit www.surrey.ca/arts or call 604-501-5566.
