Meet the next Miss World Canada

Miss World® Canada is the official Canadian preliminary to the internationally renowned Miss World® pageant. The Canadian pageant takes place on May 11, 2014 at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey. 
This unique competition focuses on humanitarianism and philanthropy, and contestants become world ambassadors for volunteerism. The pageant supports Variety – The Children’s Charity to help improve the lives of underprivileged children with special needs. 
The winner of the Miss World® Canada pageant will be announced at a special gala event on May 11. She will receive an all-expense paid trip to represent Canada at the 2014 Miss World® pageant, as well as a $3000 cash scholarship, a designer evening gown, professional photo shoot and the official national crown. 01 Lisa Xie
Lisa is a youth advocate and community leader dedicated to empowering youth and women. This Grade 12 student from White Rock, BC, immigrated to Canada when she was nine. She believes that every child has the right to free and quality education, and she works with Heart2Heart, an organization run by high school students to build schools around the world. In May, Lisa organized a province wide marathon to the Legislature Assembly to have students’ voice heard about the flaws of the current public education system. A victim of bullying, she continues to speak up against bullying. 
 
02 Jacqueline Hui
As a female filmmaker and a film student at the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Jacqueline Hui is determined to empower young women through her work. Her short films have been entered into film festivals across North America, and her goal is to spread positive messages wherever she goes and speak up for those in need. Through this pageant, she hopes to lend a voice to those who are victims of human trafficking.
 
03 Kiki Chen
Twenty-three year old Kiki Chen was born in Taiwan, and raised in Burnaby, British Columbia. Now a Registered Nurse at the University of Alberta Hospital, Kiki shares her passion to personally help and care for people. She recently volunteered as a nurse in Rwanda in a rural hospital with limited resources where she learned to be thankful and use her gifts to bless others. She has also led youth summer camps, taught English overseas to children in urban slum communities, and volunteered at an assisted living centre.
 
04 Sindy Nguyen
Despite growing up in the small town of Huntsville, Ontario, Sindy Nguyen is anything but a small town girl. Sindy is fluent in both English and Vietnamese and currently works as a social media marketing manager in Toronto. Her ability to test her limits and fears has given her the courage to skydive, surf, bungee jump and shark cage dive. Having travelled to 26 countries, Sindy has a better appreciation of our world and an understanding that every day is a day for practicing kindness, compassion and generosity. 
 
05 Alisha Sharma
Alisha Sharma was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, where she works as a certified makeup artist and hairstylist. Her focus for Miss World is to develop education for youth by building confidence, motivation, and helping them better themselves. Her belief is that youth will need education to address social and global challenges, including inequality, conflict, and causes such as climate change. Alisha’s powerful personality and belief in the power of education will help make a difference in the lives of children around the world.
 
06 Amrit Kaur
Amrit Kaur leads her life by giving a voice to the voiceless. Raised in Markham, Ontario, Amrit began singing, playing the piano, and acting at an early age, and her talent led her to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting at York University’s prestigious conservatory program. She co-founded her high-school newspaper Ink’d, assisted Alzheimer’s disease patients at Sunrise Senior Living, and worked with cancer patients at the Markham Stouffville hospital. She continues to empower the voiceless through her play Hummingbird, based on true stories that target the bully through the voice of a sexually harassed chorus of victims. 
 
07 Harveen Singh
Harveen was raised in Oakville, Ontario, and currently resides in London, England, where she studies fashion at the University of Arts London. Her list of diverse life experiences include travelling in Italy with a choir, volunteering with the Kiwanis Club of Canada, being a Royal Canadian Air Cadet, and dancing at a Raptors half-time show. Her platform for Miss World Canada is to advocate for healthy living both physically and mentally. If you know you’re healthy and beautiful, you don’t need the world to tell you so. 
 
08 Jasmeen Johal
Jasmeen believes that it is her duty to give back to the community. The Abbotsford, BC-based student is enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at the University Of the Fraser Valley. Outside of school, her passion for dance has led her to inspire younger generations by teaching at various institutions. Challenging herself physically and mentally Jasmeen is never afraid to take upon new tasks. She began modeling at a young age and believes that Miss World Canada will provide her with a platform to help make the world a better place.
 
09 Aarthi Lalyan
Aarthi has lived a unique life. A Canadian woman of half Indian and half Filipino descent, she lived almost half her life in Saudi Arabia before moving to Mississauga, Ontario. Aarthi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University before studying Human Resources Management at Mohawk College. She has a deep passion for dance and language. Her platform and life mission is to practice and inspire compassionate living; from the way we interact with people and animals to the consumer choices that we make. 
 
10 Mary Cleverley
Twenty-two year old Mary was born in the Philippines and came to Canada in 2003 to live in Duncan, British Columbia. As a young student, she played field hockey, basketball and volleyball, and was voted Sports Personality of the Year at George Bonner Middle School. She was crowned Miss Teen Victoria in 2010 and received the title of Miss Philippines North America in Toronto. Mary aspires to be a kindergarten teacher and to succeed in achieving a diploma for Early Childhood Education and Care.
