Vancouver celebrates Asian rhythms

Sound of Dragon Music Festival is Vancouver’s first festival devoted to Chinese music, showcasing ancient folk and classical repertoire, contemporary compositions, jazz, world, fusion, and avant-garde improvisation in solo, chamber, and orchestral performances. The festival takes place at Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Yaletown from May 9 – 11.
While presenting authentic traditional music, the festival promotes creativity and innovation in imaginative newensembles and projects, using unusual cross-cultural instrumentations.By presenting musicians from different ethnicities, nationalities and musical genres, Sound of Dragon re-defines Chinese music and reflects Vancouver’s growing multicultural environment and a highly creative music scene.
The festival will also include workshops, video screening, interdisciplinary performances and installations, as well as a unique instrument petting zoo. In addition to ticketed concerts, the festival offers many free activities to the public. Learn more at  www.soundofdragon.ca.
