Malaysian consul leads a diplomatic golf charge in BC

For Mohd. Haniff Abdul Rahman golf is more than game.
It’s a way of raising money and aid for B.C. charities while showcasing the culture and values of his homeland.
So come this August, Mohd Haniff will be taking to the greens alongside a bevy of diplomats from Southeast Asian nations with a determined and dedicated swing.
Mohd. Haniff is this year’s chairman of the 2014 ASEAN Golf Tournament is proudly organized by Consulates General of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Since 1994, the event has raised more than C$170,000 and donated to various charity organizations.
Last year over CAD$35,000 was raised and a major portion was donated to the Developmental Disabilities Association (DDA) and the Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS).
An additional CAD4,000 was donated to the government of the Philippines through the Red Cross of Canada to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
This year, the Tournament will be held on Friday, 8 August 2014 at the Quilchena Golf and Country Club, 3551 Granville Avenue in Richmond.
“The success of the Tournament has been due largely to the generosity of its sponsors and participation of keen golfers,” said Mohd. Haniff .
“It will be a fun and challenging event, it will also serve as a great opportunity to build and nurture friendships between members of the ASEAN Consulates General and representatives from the business sector and other communities in Vancouver,” said Mohd. Haniff, adding the event will also promote Asian culture and values which essential in forging new relationships in Canada.
