High tea at La Petite Cuillere

La Petite Cuillere Tea House offers affordable high tea and afternoon tea in the Mount Pleasant area. Compared to other places offering similar tea services, La Petite Cuillere was most affordable and proved to be a great location for a team meeting with coworkers.
The interior is quite nice and has a few tables and cupboards filled with saucers and cups. If you have groups of four or more, or people in your party who have allergies, make a reservation so they can have everything ready ahead of time. Besides tea, La Petite Cuillere also offers all-day brunch.
The English Tea Menu has three main options to choose from, each accompanied by your choice of tea. La petite cuillère Tea ($12.75 per person) includes two miniature sweets and one signature cupcake. The “Afternoon Tea” ($24.50 per person) includes a full service of three miniature sweets, three finger sandwiches, two miniature scones, a mini loaf, tea biscuit, fruit preserves, and Devonshire cream. It’s served on a traditional three-tier stand. The “High Tea” ($13.75 per person) features a selection of two miniature sweets, two finger sandwiches, one miniature scone, fruit preserves, and Devonshire cream.
They have a large selection of tea and I tried the Ti Kuan Yin Oolong. This tea is a semi-fermented Oolong tea, has long been one of China’s most popular teas. It has an aroma reminiscent of a Merseault wine with a creamy sweet flavour and floral notes. The brew finishes with its famous cooked sugar taste.
We all ordered The “Afternoon Tea,” and when the three-tier stand arrived everyone took out their phones to take pictures. It’s quite a sight when you see all the tiers appearing on the table.
We started with the first tier, which included a croissant sandwich, an asparagus and salmon sandwich, and a veggie roll. The three items were decent. On the second tier, there were two miniature scones, a mini loaf, and tea biscuit. You use the Devonshire cream and the fruit preserves from the first tier for the scones. The third tier features dessert: a macaron, cheesecake, and a raspberry tart. Every last item was enjoyable.
For $24.50 for their largest set, it is definitely affordable compared to some other tea places in town. The service is great and there is a cozy atmosphere. The quality was decent and you get what you pay for. I had a great experience dining here.
