Vancouver celebrates Navratri

The Gujarati Society of BC hosted its final night of Navratri and the Diwali Festival this past weekend on Sunday at the RIver Rock Casino Theatre.
The Society launched the festival on October 26th in Burnaby and since then has hosted 5 jam-packed events with up to 4,500 attendees.
President Rajan Raniga said the event was intended to bring the Gujarati community together and to showcase Gujarati culture and dance to Canadians.
The theme of the jam packed theater was respect and love for all cultures, highlighting the virtues of the meaning of Diwali - the festival light.
According to Raniga, promoting education will be another aim for the society in the coming year as the Society strives to set up a scholarship for Gujarati Canadian youth.
Since 1967, the GSBC has been working to preserve the cultural and linguistic heritage of Gujarati’s living in Metro Vancouver through events and education.
The GSBC is a not-for-profit organization serving 3,700 Gujarati members throughout BC.
