For more than 125 years, a Governor General’s Academic Medal has been awarded to the graduating student who has the highest average from each secondary school in Canada. In Burnaby schools, the Governor General’s Academic Medal recipients for the 2013-14 school year are: 
Mohammad Asadi Lari ( Alpha), Pashindu Muthukuda (Burnaby Central), Zahra Rajwani (Burnaby Mountain), Nancy Lum (Burnaby North), Anna Ye (Burnaby South), Kai-Chin (Justin) Lin (Byrne Creek), Natasha Williams (Cariboo Hill), and Jenny Zhang (Moscrop).
The Burnaby Board of Education honoured these students at a public meeting on October 28, 2014.
