Restaurant Review: Fish Café

We decided to try something in Kerrisdale – the Fish Cafe.
As its name suggests, the place is all seafood. We shared the large Grilled Calamari with garlic butter, prepared masterfully as it was chewy and tender. I had a large bowl of Clam Chowder. The flavours were mild and creamy with some brininess and lots of clams.
Hot Chocolate had the Crab Cakes, which were small and flat for the price. The exterior was lightly crisp and dressed with a mild roasted red pepper sauce. Miss Y had the Grilled Scallops with garlic butter and rice. The eight buttery scallops were quite small, but were nicely seared and well-seasoned.
I had the two-piece Steelhead and Chips. It was expertly fried where it was flaky and super moist. The batter was thick, yet crunchy. The tartar sauce creamy lacked acidity and salt. The thick-cut fries were crispy. Milhouse ordered the Sockeye Salmon with lemon butter and fries. It was flaky and not dried-out. It had an excellent sear on both sides. The salmon was properly seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon butter.
Chill opted for the Grilled Halibut with garlic butter and fries. The halibut was  fresh and flawlessly prepared. It was crisp and seasoned fully. For dessert, we had the Chocolate Oblivion. With 3 layers of ganache, mousse and cake, it had different textures. The cake was surprisingly semi-sweet. However, if we focus on the fish only, the place truly lives up to its name with masterfully prepared fresh fish.
