Sidewalk Runway:Brilliant

Gymnastics and ice skating scores are based on technical and creative performances. While the basics are crucial, everyone wants to see the creative interpretations. Now imagine a small army of hair stylists, makeup artists, fashion designers, singers, dancers and musicians that create a performance that lets their imagination run wild. That event is known as Brilliant.
The sold out annual event dazzled the Commodore Ballroom audience last Saturday night. Ticket sales, a live auction and pledges raised $450,000 for St. Paul’s Hospital, mental health and addiction programs. An anonymous donor donated a staggering $1M!
Under the creative leadership of Dean Thullner, the volunteer army reinterpreted and modernized the classic fairy tales. For example, in Rapunzel, a squad of female dancers appeared on stage with waist length braided hair. The transformation from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde was symbolized by two completely different styles of break dancing.
The show ended at 10pm but guests lingered as tables were cleared to form a dance floor.
