Restaurant Review: Left Bank

We ended up heading to Left Bank on Denman.
We got an order of the Bread and Butter. The spread was applied in between the slits prior to toasting. We feasted on the buttery smooth Tuna Tartare. The slight acidity from the tomatoes helped liven things up.
The appetizer Chicken Liver & Foie Gras Parfait was served with grilled bread. The sweet parfait was balanced by the liver essence. The honeycomb gelee added a layer of sweetness. The Fried Chicken Bites had each "finger" that was firmly crispy outside, yet succulent inside.  The maple chipotle dip gave a spicy kick.
I had the Steak Frites featuring a Newport steak and Szechaun peppercorn sauce. The steak was medium-rare as requested and tender. The sauce was well-balanced. We would've liked to see more curry, yet the Thai Coconut Curry Steamed Mussels dish was still stellar.
The weakest item was the Scallops and Prawns with risotto, beurre blanc, herb salad and root veggies. It had clumpy and dense risotto. The Cedar Plank Salmon was expertly prepared. Flaky and moist, the salmon was well-seasoned with maple butter.
We tried the Braised Short Ribs which was fork tender. The residual thickened jus was full of root veggie depth. All the carrots, parsnips and turnips were on point.
The Blueberry Cheesecake was smooth and lightly sweetened. The super rich Chocolate Torte was very heavy while subtly sweet. We thought the ganache was a bit too dense. It was chocolaty with a slight bitterness. Overall, we were quite pleased with our meal at Left Bank. Portions were generous while the proteins were mainly on point.
