Restaurant Review: Che-Licious

When I first visited Che-Licious, I tried their dessert drinks, appies and banh mi. When Sean asked if I could go with him for another visit, I did because they added Pho to the menu.
We had a real Mango Slush with assorted Che ingredients. I really liked the the creamy texture of the slush. I asked for less sugar. It still had the mango flavour. For our appy, we shared the Spring Rolls served with a hoisin dip. The rolls were piping hot and crunchy. The pork and shrimp filling was seasoned while it was sweet and savoury (would have preferred rice wrappers).
We had two of the Banh Mi creations. Stuffed with sauteed shrimp, pickled daikon and carrot, cucumber, cilantro and mayo, the Shine on Shrimp was strangely similar to the one found at Hubbub, but not quite. The crusty bread ensured that the shrimp wasn't overshadowed. The flavours were classic. Get the Chick had same ingredients except for the protein (being grilled chicken and pate). The chicken was well-seasoned and moist while while the pate added an aromatic meatiness to the sandwich.
The real reason we were here was for the Pho, which had a slightly greasy broth that had depth-of-flavour and aroma. It was slightly sweet, but not salty with a note of licorice essence from the star anise. Definitely a unique broth. The noodles were toothsome and well-portioned. The meats were plentiful and tender. The addition of Pho onto the menu is a good idea as it only adds to the solid array of eats where it provided an option from all the Banh Mi available.
