Restaurant Review: Caliburger

When I first heard of Caliburger – a chain that has actually been sued by In ‘N Out for imitating their menu – I was curious how they would compare. Fortunately the second Canadian location of the chain recently opened in downtown Vancouver.

I ordered a Cali Double with Bacon featuring two beef patties, melted American cheese, red tomatoes, raw onions, ice burg lettuce, and their Caliburger’s signature sauce (similar to thousand island dressing). This was a good burger. The veggies were fresh, the bacon was crisp, and there was plenty of melted cheese and zesty sauce; however the real winning ingredient was the beef patties. This was definitely one of the better fast food burgers that I’ve had recently.

I was curious about the Calibello Burger. Featuring a breaded portobello mushroom, melted American cheese, red tomatoes, ice burg lettuce, and Caliburger’s signature sauce, this burger has been raved about on social media. For a vegetarian burger, this was excellent. I would take the Calidouble over it ANY day.

We also had the Cali Style Fries which consists of fries smothered in American cheese, grilled sweet onions, and Caliburger’s signature sauce. These were about a million times better than the fries that I had at In ‘N Out. They weren’t super crispy, but they had a slight crust with a softer center. I was liked the toppings. The savouriness of the cheese, tanginess of the sauce, and sweetness of the onions kept me from getting bored. I’ll definitely stick with ordering them Cali Style on future visits.

I really enjoyed the Calidouble burger, and I’m already jonesing for another. I get the feeling it won’t be long before I’m eating one again. I’m definitely glad it’s the chain we got in Vancouver.
