Report card shows a decline in BC secondary schools’ performance

According to Fraser Institute’s annual B.C. secondary schools rankings, 27 schools have improved their overall rating over the past four years, while 33 schools declining ratings over the same period.

“Our annual report card reveals how schools perform year over year, so parents can quickly see if there are problems that must be corrected,” said Peter Cowley, director of school performance studies at the Fraser Institute.

The Report Card on British Columbia’s Secondary Schools, 2017 ranks 293 public and independent secondary schools. The rankings are based on seven academic indicators using student results from annual province-wide exams, grade-to-grade transition rates, and graduation rates.’’

The fastest declining school was MacKenzie in Prince George.  Second is Nakusp in Arrow Lakes, followed by Barriere in Kamloops, Charles Bloom in Vernon, Hazelton in Coast Mountains. Next are St. John Brebeuf in Abbotsford, D. P. Todd in Prince George, Wellington in Nanaimo-Ladysmith, Sa-Hali in Kamloops and Ladysmith in Nanaimo-Ladysmith.
