New festival celebrates Latin, African and Caribbean cultures in music

Kicking off the first One Love Westcoast Music and Community Festival on August 11 is the VIP concert showcasing Antidoping from Mexico, The Sentiments, Potato (to be confirmed) and Cawama. It will take place at the Rickshaw theatre.

Latin Summer Fest, Van Music, and Super Chido Productions will co-launch this first edition of this festival, which features Afro Latino and Reggae cultures and music. This three-day event will be hosted at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.

Anti Doping, a reggae super star, is celebrating 25 years of resistance championing the social causes of Latin America. Founders of the Razteca movement and fusion of reggae styles will get people dancing.

Ku J Reggae artist from St Marteen, from Ottawa, has recorded many videos and lives by the reggae mantra.

The Sentiments is a classic ska band with a powerful female vocal. Its members are seasoned musicians that have played and still do some of the best ska projects in their state.

Potato from Vitoria Gasteiz in Spain is another super reggae ska world power. Formed in 1984 they were the first ska reggae band in their country and after several members and numerous LPs and tours they are still going strong. Playing with them is local band Kownterpoint.
