| Heartbeat | ‘Heartbeat‘, the spectacular Action-Musical that premiered in August as part of the first Annual Chinese Performing Arts festival in Vancouver, is coming back for its second run.
The first appearance for the show, which ran at the Centre for Performing Arts was wildly successful, prompting the show‘s organizers, Sight, Sound and Action Ltd, to bring it back for another series.
Produced and directed by Dr. Dennis Law MD and co-produced with his wife, Moon Lee Law, ‘Heartbeat‘ once again will put into prominence the previously untapped impact of Chinese art and instruments on the world stage.
With ‘Heartbeat‘, the audience is treated to a feast of sound and action in a combination of drums and dances with flamboyant martial arts.
Taking the audience through two millennia of China‘s rich tradition of drums and percussion music, the performance features an impressive cast of over 60 dancers, martial artists and musicians and over 100 drum and percussion instruments.
At the heart of ‘Heartbeat‘ is a simple storyline to show how drums and percussions instruments have played a central role in the history of the world.
“China‘s rich tradition of drums and percussions has been suppressed by its last hundred years‘ of revolution, wars, and other turmoil,“ says Dr Law. The production, supported by over 500 handmade costumes, and fast changing grandiose sets, promises to reverse this lapse.
The show is currently paying in Toronto as the second stop of its national tour and will return to Vancouver between October 9–16 and 25–30.

Says Dr Law, “The expressed purpose of this festival is to foster pride in Chinese heritage among Canadians of Chinese descent.”
Judging by the response from all quarters, the attraction seems to know no limits.
