Some companies are now settling for bachelor‘s degrees in business, as MBAs are becoming too expensive to hire, according to a report in The Toronto Star.

| MBA's becoming too expensive to hire for smaller companies | While larger companies still require and can afford to pay MBAs, smaller companies are looking to scale down and thus seeking more affordable versions of the skill sets MBAs offer.
This demand has driven enrolment at Ryerson‘s Bachelor of Commerce program to 6,000, making it Canada‘s largest undergraduate business school. UBC‘s Sauder School of Business undergrad enrolment is now up to 2,000.
However, for those interested in pursuing CEO status sometime in their careers, larger companies do recognize MBAs and the schools they were obtained from.
According to the Financial Times 2004 rankings, University of Western Ontario ranked highest among Canadian schools at 16th for its China program at the Ivey School of Business.
The top three ratings for MBA programs went to the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard and Columbia, respectively. The rankings were unchanged from 2003.
The U of T‘s Rotman School of Business, at 21st, was ranked highest in Canada. |
