At least five Pakistani nuclear scientists, could be developing nuclear weapons in what the U.S. deems rogue states, were trained at Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and worked on reactors in New Brunswick and Ontario.

The allegations were in a Jan. 16 article in the Asian Pacific Post, a twice-monthly newspaper based in Vancouver. "The story reported Atomic Energy of Canada trained at least five of nine atomic power experts from Pakistan who have since left Pakistan under mysterious circumstances and who could have been wooed to work for nuclear engineers and scientists working at Chasnupp [Pakistan's...largest nuclear facility] are unhappy with their salaries and are thus looking for openings to leave the country quietly."

"I really can't respond to any of this because there really is no way for us to know whether or not any of it is true or false," said AECL spokesman Ina Dovey. "From what I have read, everything in there [the article] is unsubstantied."
