The study of science is a complex subject for many, but for Alana Benes, a second year student at Kwantlen University College, it‘s a subject that will lead her to fulfilling her dream of becoming a doctor. Benes was the recipient of the 2005 College Chemistry Canada (C3) Scholarship award presented during National Science and Technology Week.
College Chemistry Canada is a nonprofit national organization dedicated to the promotion of the teaching of chemistry primarily at the college and university level. The C3 Scholarship, worth $400, is designed to help a student pursue studies in science at a Canadian post secondary educational institution.

Benes, a Surrey resident, is currently in her second year of sciences and is enrolled in organic and analytical chemistry and cell biology at Kwantlen‘s Surrey Campus. In the spring, she hopes to study biochemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and psychology.
“I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that I was this year‘s recipient of the C3 award,“ said Benes. “I am honoured to be recognized by an organization as great as College Chemistry Canada.“
Benes says she has gained many valuable skills at Kwantlen that will lead her to success in the future. She hopes to transfer to UBC in her third year to the Medical Laboratory Science degree program and then on to medical school.
“My goal is to not only provide health care to people in British Columbia, but also to help others around the world.”
Kwantlen University College‘s mission is to create an exceptional learning environment committed to preparing learners for leadership, service and success. Kwantlen became a university college with degree granting status in 1995; and has a mandate to develop and offer baccalaureate degrees that will prepare students for well paid, fulfilling careers.
