Backstage circus

The colours and cultures of the world will be out to play at this year's Vancouver International Children's Festival, running from May 16--23.

At the top of the list is the renowned Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre from New Zealand. This group presents a glimpse into Maori culture, dance and music through their production, People of the Pacific with it's high-energy performance, rich harmonies, explanatory narrative and a healthy dose of humour.

The National Acrobats of Taiwan are also coming this year. This troupe has wowed audiences around the world with their jaw dropping, gravity-defying feats, music and costumes.

If you're a fan of acrobatics and breathtaking circus tricks there's even more in store for you in The Underground Circus's Backstage Circus, a world premiere and special Festival commission. Drawing on their experiences touring for two years with Cirque du Soleil, Vancouver's own Backstage Circus creators let you in on the hilarious confusion that exists backstage.

Harry Wong

A huge hit at last year's Festival, acclaimed Hong Kong magician and musician Harry Wong presents a solo show, Made in Hong Kong with Harry Wong.

Fun for all ages, it combines music, puppetry, magic and cooking in a story about misunderstandings between a father and his daughter studying abroad.

There will be lots of music, dance and fun at the Festival.
