The closing ceremony last night included a big presentation by the camp participants, who performed dances and martial arts that they had learned during the camp. About 140 spectators came to the presentation. Among them were Mr. Richard T. Lee, the MLA (Burnaby North) and Mr. John Cheng, the Vancouver School Board Trustee. At the end of the presentation the organizer presented a Letter of Appreciation to CIC. It was surely one of the greatest events that we have hosted, the organizer said the camp was a great success.
Canadian International College hosted 107 students ranging from ages 8 to 18 who were involved in a Taiwanese cultural immersion camp. The camp which was held for 3 nights and 4 days (July 4 to July 7) and was a memorable summer experience for the students.
Known as the "Taiwan Cultural Camp", this camp is one of many sponsored by the Taiwanese government throughout North America. The aim of the camp is to promote and maintain the cultural ties for the children of overseas Taiwanese families. There were 3 teachers from Taiwan who taught art, Chinese style exercise and dance. Most of the participants are from the Chinese community in the Greater Vancouver area.
We had an honour of the visit from the Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Mr Yu-chung Lo.

The camp is hosted by Canadian International College and the students are staying in our on-campus Residence. "I find this camp very unique" says Mr. Morio Kaneda, Director of Student Services at CIC. "Children who have grown up in Canada have the opportunity to experience the cultural roots of their family heritage through this camp. We are very proud to be working with the camp organizers, and welcome this opportunity to be able to accommodate this group of students on our campus and in our dormitories."
The camp is organized by Mr. Ken Chu of Access International Resources in Richmond.
