The 3rd Annual WinterSong Festival celebrates the joy of song and the human voice with a broad range of exciting and dynamic performances in various West Vancouver venues from Feb 8-17, 2008.
The diverse program showcases a breadth of events featuring both professional and aspiring talent.
There is nothing that touches the heart and soul quite the same way as the human voice lifted in song, and this 10-day festival will offer something for everyone’s musical tastes.
The 2008 Festival kicks off on February 8th with jazz, blues and gospel powerhouse vocalist Dee Daniels and her trio at a special WinterSong Cabaret Opening Gala concert.
For this event and several others, the Kay Meek Centre Studio Theatre (1700 Mathers Ave.) will be transformed into an intimate night club with beverages and cabaret seating.
Other WinterSong Cabaret performances include The Music of Ain’t Misbehavin’ with Sibel Thrasher, Denis Simpson and Candus Churchill (Feb. 13), A Jazz Valentine with three of Vancouver’s finest singers Kate Hammett-Vaughan, Karin Plato and Jennifer Scott along with their Jazz Trio (Feb. 14), the French lounge, New York swing, Brazilian bossas sound of Mimosa (Feb. 15) and leading bluegrass band John Reischman & The Jaybirds (Feb. 16).
The Kay Meek Centre’s Premier Main Stage Concerts feature a rare performance by two of Canada’s most beloved acoustic performers sharing the stage in An Evening with Connie Kaldor and Roy Forbes (Feb. 9). On the closing night of the festival this concert is guaranteed to raise the roof and bring the house down at the Kay Meek - featuring Jim Byrnes, The Sojourners and the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir (Feb. 17).
There will also be several other special events outside of the Kay Meek Centre including a community Valentine’s Day Dance “Dancin’ Out West” featuring the high-energy dance band Famous Players, at the Gleneagles Community Centre (Feb. 16).
