CHANDAN BHATTI, 30+ yrs
Senior Business Analyst
Strategic Planning & Executive
TELUS Communications

Hours each week: 45-60 hrs/week
Years of Position:  10 months, ICBC 10 yrs
Salary: $60,000-$75,000, depending on education and experience

What’s the best part of the job:
I enjoy participating in strategy planning sessions with other managers, directors, and members of the leadership team. I’m provided with the opportunity to assist in the formulation of long-term strategic solutions. Being fairly new to the telecommunications and call centre industry, I am constantly learning and continuously challenged. Also, TELUS has awesome program to support the development of female executives.

Responsibilities:
I am entrusted with a high level of responsibility as the budget and business planner for a national call centre of approximately 1000 individuals located within 5 cities across Canada and the Philippines.

As the capacity planner of a national call centre it is imperative that I stay in constant communication with a fair number of internal stakeholders to sustain an integral understanding of both the current and planned state of operations. I need to provide internal stakeholders with information regarding key metrics that were built into budget plan. I need to project the 3-month forecasted outlook on key metrics and provide feedback into the current situation.

Challenges (the most difficult incident you have dealt with so far in your work):

The most difficult incident I’ve dealt with thus far was preparing the 2008 budget this past fall.  While budget time is already very demanding and stressful, I was new to telecommunications, the call centre industry, and budget planning in general.  I must have been putting in more than 70 hours a week to meet rigorous timelines. This was no easy task, as I was trying to maintain some degree of work/life balance as the mother of two little boys aged 2yrs and 4yrs.

Differences (how is it different from other jobs that you previously had/ or school?):
Upon obtaining my CMA designation, it was imperative that I be able to utilize my newly acquired strategic planning and leadership skills.

Prior to joining TELUS, I felt that my diverse skill set was being underutilized and that I needed more of a challenge.

My current position provides with the opportunity to help shape the strategy and the future of the business.
