In less than a month’s time Carling Muir of the Langara College women’s basketball team has already raised $9,323.81 and she is rapidly approaching the $10,000 mark. All funds raised are going directly to the Neuro-Oncology research fund of the BC Cancer Foundation.
Through online donations as well as those made at the Falcons for a Cure fund-raiser, Carling’s campaign quickly gained momentum with each passing day.
Carling’s story was even heard by a fellow CCAA player Jen Seemann of the Grande Prairie Regional College women’s basketball team. Seemann, who like Carling wears the number seven, rallied her teammates and her Athletic Director Francois Fournier, to create the “Carling Fund” campaign.
Their campaign concluded this past weekend raising more than $1200. “The response has really been overwhelming,” said the 19-year-old Muir. “I would have never imagined that we would raise this much, this fast.”
“I also would like to express a very special thank you to Jen Seemann and the entire Grande Prairie Athletics Department for their hard work and support,” added Muir.
Those wanting to help Carling push past the $10,000 mark can make a donation online.
November 20, 2006 marked a life-changing day when 19-year-old Muir collapsed after basketball practice on campus, which led doctors to discover a malignant brain tumor.
Her enduring strength combined with the unconditional support of those around her has helped her though the past year of chemotherapy treatments.
Cancer has done nothing to slow this young Falcon down she was back on the court within a year, in good spirits and playing better than ever.
