Culture Fest integrates multicultural communities of Metro Vancouver
Wed, June 18 2008
This year Culture Fest 2008 is being presented by the newly formed Intercultural Harmony Society of B.C. and the event will run from June 23 to 28. The society has representation from Caribbean, Latin, Afro and Punjabi cultures among with others. The new organization will take the lead in Langley for voicing and representing immigrant issues and to promote and advocate initiatives in such areas as public art, community development projects, ESL provision and Migrant worker issues. It will also be a core part of the Taskforce for Antiracism in the Township of Langley. "The festival venue creates a place and an audience for those who normally go unnoticed," said Ana David, General Co-ordinator. "We cannot change immigration laws overnight, but we can contribute to a coat and boots drive to be donated to our local migrant temporary workers who still need to live in Canada six to eight months a year, and foot their living costs." Culture Fest is a celebration of culture and diversity. The Festival will be first to open the event centre site at the RE Mountain Secondary fields on 202A and 78. Tell us what you think
