Amrita-SondhiName: Amrita Sondhi

Talent: Designer

"I think Movement (her clothing line) is successful, because I like to make my designs real for people. I design with people in mind. I design for function and for feel." As well as being a designer, Sondhi is a yoga teacher and an author.

Inspiration: It is no coincidence that Sondhi’s line is named Movement. "Movement is my biggest inspiration when it comes to designing. I want my designs to be versatile. You can even wear my garments under work clothing."

Sondhi found inspiration for her line and her foundation, The Pamoja Foundation, while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, which is the highest peak in Africa reaching 5,895 metres.

"Movement is really about yoga, which is about meditation which teaches us that energy is the force that keeps the world going," says Sondhi.

Cultural Background:  Sondhi’s grandparents are from India. She was born in Kenya and moved to Canada when she was 13. "I am of Indian origin, African birth, and Canadian nationality," says Sondhi.

Future Plans: "Expanding movement. Getting bigger and busier. I Would love Movement to be global." You can visit the website www.movementglobal.com for more information.

Awards: Sondhi was chosen to speak at the BCAMA (British Columbia American Marketing Association). She is also the best selling author of The Modern Ayurvedic Cookbook.
