There's a new game in town

MVCL_Game_at_Stanley_ParkA new cricket league in British Columbia, known as the Metro Vancouver Cricket League (MVCL), was formed last year. While the League itself is new, several of its members and administrators are old timers who have been involved with cricket locally and nationally over the years.

The inaugural season of the League got off to a flying start as planned on May 26 of this year.

Thirty-two teams from Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey and Tsawwassen have joined the MVCL and all clubs have duly registered players. Newcomer to the local scene is the Under 25 team which will play six games during the season against Premier Division teams.

Plans for this year include all teams playing 16 games each and a 20/20 tournament being held later in the year.

The Junior Six-A-Side Tournament held at Sperling Park was a great success, as a large number of players, parents and supporters braved the inclement weather to cheer on and encourage the youngsters.

The Metro Vancouver Cricket League is proud to announce that one of their clubs, Meraloma Cricket Club, will represent B.C. at the John Ross Robertson Tournament in Calgary early in July, where the top team from each province play against each other to determine the national winner.

There is much more to come as far as local cricket is concerned, according to league President Dave Mann.
