There are two things you won’t find on the night of November 1 – a seat at Hon’s Wun-Tun House and a parking spot near GM Place.
On November 1, China is staging a concert of unprecedented scale at GM Place featuring superstars of Chinese pop music, television, and sport.
Sponsored by China Central Television, China’s largest TV network, and The Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, the all-star annual variety show Our Chinese Heart will be staged for the first time in Canada and later broadcast to an audience of 1.1 billion Chinese worldwide.
Billed as the “biggest Sino-event” in North America ever, Our Chinese Heart will feature performers from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, including: Ken Zhu Xiao Tian (of the heartthrob Taiwanese boy band F4), Kelly Chen Hui Ling (who shot to fame following her performance at the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Games), Xiao Ya Xuan, Herundeng, Na Ying, Chen Kun, Adu, Xu Hui Xin, wunderkind Alf (the singing/acting prodigy from Mongolia), and a raft of surprise celebrities.
The Asian Pacific Post has just learned that CCTV is also flying in 2008 Summer Olympics Gold Medal winners Wenna He (Women’s Trampoline Gymnastics) and Man Zhong (Men’s Individual Sabre) for the super-show before 12,000-plus Metro Vancouver fans.
“This is a big, big concert,” event organizer Helen Qian told the Asian Pacific Post.
“People are very excited about the show there is a big buzz in town already.”
Proceeds of the show will be donated to the Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund and local charities, Qian said.
CCTV – which broadcasts internationally to satellite and locally on Rogers Cable Channel 596 – created the Our Chinese Heart variety show several years ago to showcase Chinese talent internationally. It has been staged more than 100 times in China, but never before in Canada.
The concert extravaganza coincides with the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, or Moon Festival, a popular harvest festival dating back over 3,000 years.
In modern times, the Moon Festival is a time to celebrate love and care for family and community. . . and throw a party.
Tickets for Our Chinese Heart are available by calling 1-888-882-2588, with seats going for $38 for the upper bleachers to $288 for a floor seat metres away from China’s latest group of superstars.
