Volkswagen Canada has announced pricing for its 2009 models and the Routan, an all-new seven-passenger vehicle for the Canadian market, starts at $27,975, making it the most affordable seven-seat import nameplate van in the country.
The Routan comes with a 4.0 litre single overhead cam V6 engine with 251 HP and 259 pound-feet of torque, the most standard torque in its class. It features a unique European-tuned suspension and steering matched for handling and improved driving dynamics in the tradition of Volkswagen’s German engineering heritage.
Mated with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission, the new 2009 Routan’s fuel economy is rated by Transport Canada at 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway and 12.2L/100 km in the city.
The Routan offers full seating for seven people in three rows with 930 litres of cargo space behind the third row.
Its versatility for carrying more cargo increases to a cavernous 2,400 litres when the third row is stowed into the floor. The seatbacks in the second row can be folded flat if even more space is required for longer items, with storage compartments and cup holders available throughout the vehicle.
Standard features include 3-zone climate control, CD player with 6 speakers, dual sliding side doors, front and side curtain airbags, tire pressure monitoring system, and Electronic Stabilization Programme.
Transport officials have also given it a five-star best-in-class safety rating.
