U.S. R&B singer Rihanna cancelled a sold-out concert in the Indonesian capital Jakarta because of security concerns. Indonesia has been on alert in case of reprisals after three Islamist militants were executed early this month for their parts in the 2002 Bali nightclub bombings that killed 202 people. All 6,000 tickets for the "Good Girl Gone Bad" concert, by the 20-year-old singer, some costing up to 2.5 million rupiah (US$215), had been sold out.

An Indian court has dropped sexual assault charges against the boyfriend of murdered British teenager Scarlett Keeling, whose body was found on a beach in the resort state of Goa. The 15-year-old girl had been staying with Julio Lobo, 27, before her death in February this year. Her diary entries mentioning sex with Lobo led to him being charged with having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. But the Goa Children's Court dropped the charge, saying in a ruling that the diary was not admissible evidence.


Two local men are awaiting trial charged in connection with Keeling's death.

Thousands of people flocked to a remote jungle in southeast Nepal to see a boy, some believe is a reincarnation of Lord Buddha, who reappeared after missing for more than a year,. Seventeen-year-old Ram Bahadur Bamjon spoke to devotees in the remote forest in Ratanpuri. Bamjon made international headlines in 2005 when tens of thousands of people turned up to see him sitting cross-legged under a tree in a dense forest for nearly 10 months reportedly without food and water. Buddha was born a prince in Lumbini, more than 2,600 years ago.

Chinese actress Gong Li's decision to become a Singapore citizen has sparked an online debate in China, with many branding her a traitor but others defending the star. Gong, who served recently as a Chinese parliament delegate, has to forsake her Chinese citizenship, and the decision triggered some fierce condemnation of the 43-year-old star of "Farewell My Concubine'' and "Memoirs of a Geisha''. "All traitors will be nailed to history's mast of shame...'' one person said in a chat forum on the popular portal Sohu.com. Added another: "Traitors like this don't even love their own country... Let them slink off to other countries and die!''




White Tigers copySINGAPORE


A Malaysian worker from Sarawak died after he was mauled by tigers at the Singapore Zoo. Visitors watched in horror as three white tigers pounced on Nordin Montong, 32. Nordin had jumped off the ledge into the water and once he was inside the enclave, the three white tigers mauled him for five to ten minutes, while 20 zookeepers tried desperately to save him by distracting the animals. As a precautionary measure, the zoo authorities have temporarily closed the white tiger exhibit.




Monitor Lizards copyKUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia


Authorities have seized more than 7,000 monitor lizards and the carcasses of 13 protected species destined to be sold to restaurants and medicine shops. The haul by officials from the Department of Wildlife included 7,093 clouded monitor lizards, still alive and weighing 35 tonnes, as well as the meat of bears, snakes, owls and porcupines found in a refrigerator. 'Most of these animals are sold to restaurants,” an official said adding that the live lizards would be released into the wild.
