Tired of midterms, the mundane work routine, or of being bombarded by news of a collapsing economy? Do you need a break to unwind?
Jhankaar 2008 is here to lift those grey clouds with a night filled of music, dance and fun.
Jhankaar is the semi-annual dinner and dance formal organized by YUVA, The South Asian Student’s Society of Simon Fraser University (SFU).
In Hindi, yuva literally means youth. Yuva at SFU is an organization made up of students and youths hailing from all over South Asia. Students from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and more come together for a night of dance and fun.
Yuva has been in existence since 2005. The main objectives of the club are to enrich SFU with South Asian culture. It also provides a platform for international students from South Asia to adapt to the Canadian culture in a fun-filled environment as they build friendships that help them feel at home during their stay in Canada.
Jhankaar is a fusion of Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and English music, with tracks spun by some of the best DJs from the lower mainland. This year there will be performances by promising local artists.
Jhankaar has sold out the last three times, and this time will be no different.
For this semester’s Jhankaar the theme colours are black, silver and purple. Adorn your best attire in one of these or a combination of these colours and dance the night away at the most anticipated formal of the semester.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and will close to entries at 8:30 p.m.
