Sam Sullivan

Citing the long established economic and cultural ties between Vancouver and Hong Kong, Mayor Sam Sullivan declared Feb. 4, 2006 as the city’s "Hong Kong Cultural and Heritage Day."

Speaking in Cantonese to members of a Hong Kong delegation at his office, Sullivan noted that Vancouver is home to more than 200,000 immigrants from the former British colony.

"The impact of Hong Kong on Vancouver’s culture is far reaching," Sullivan said.

Bassanio So of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Canada, said the move as a "step forward in the relationship between Canada’s Pacific gateway and Asia’s world city." Hong Kong is host to 250,000 Canadian passport holders.
