Why is the Canadian Gov't. not doing something about this? I was born in Canada & am appalled to see another Canadians murder not be put on a "high priority" list. It has been 6 years--this is unacceptable. I thank the Asian Pacific Post for the petition & hopefully this will keep the pressure up on the Government to do more about this.

I am very unsatisfied with our government about the situation of Jassi. Yes Jassi should have consulted her parents about or before making this decision of her own. It is wrong on her part but murder is not acceptable for Jassi or anyone else. She was a Canadian for GOD's SAKE! I consider myself to be a proud Canadian, but if I as a Canadian am murdered or killed outside of Canada, I have no rights as a Canadian. That is clearly shown in Jassi's murder. I as Canadian among all other Canadians ask for justice from this government for Jassi. We are all voices of the murdered Jassi. This government needs to give Jassi Justice, otherwise, who knows how many other Jassis might be murdered. If Jassi doesn't get justice this will set a precedent in the furture. Are we protected as Canadians, so far the answer is NO! All Canadians need to have the same rights which is PROTECTION and EQUAL RIGHT FOR ALL CANADIANs NO MATTER WHERE THEY GET KILLED OR MURDERED.

Dear Gurcharan Kaur:
With all the respect,but you said that Jassi should have consulted her"parents" before marring Mitsu. But by saying this, we have overestimated the capacity of Surjit Singh Badesha and Malkit Kaur as human beings. Only normal parents you can aproach with such an issue, parents who love the daughter NOT THEMSELVES, parents who want their daughter to be happy NOT THEM. If she could have consulted them, she would have done so. I am sure they would have sent her secretly by force to India and no one would have heard from her any more, like many other "parents" of this type did. So please Guys lets refrain from pointing out that she should have done this or that. With normal parents yes, but with THOSE SPECIES WHO DONT BELONG TO HUMAN BEINGS OR NOT EVEN TO THE ANIMAL WORLD, she could have NOT. Even the animals mothers nurture their offspring and ptotect them.
Not even animals get the type of death Jassi had.You take your animal to the vet and pay for him to be put to death comfortable,not to be tortured before and had his throat slit.Even the worst criminals get the lethal injection of which the first ingredient is putting them to sleep,so they might not suffer that much. So for this very reason I will stop referring to those two criminals as a "mother" and as an "uncle"because they are NOT!!!! but out of my respect for the readers by their name only(while I am making this case known to a great number of people to get alot of signature on-line, I use much more polite description by reffering to "THOSE TWO") .
Surjit Singh Badesha and Malkiat Kaur told Jassi that Mitsu wants to use Her,but actualy "THOSE TWO" wanted two use Jassi to get richer.They said themselves to her while trying to make her to marry one guy she did not like:"Marry him, it is good for both our families..."
Murderers, ever thirsty for more money (like they dont have enough), never satisfied with what they posessed.......
unable to overcome their greediness, that caused them to become monsters of its kind.............

I am a proud Canadian and I work with battered women. The injustice I see with my clients is unreal and I find our system is a joke when it comes to crimes and giving justice. It’s so easy to get away with the crimes people commit that it’s getting worse everyday. What happened to Jassi is WRONG. I am sure she tried to talk to her parents about her relationship with Mithu before taking this big step on her own and I am sure it was hard for her just as much if not more. Her only crime was love! All she wanted was to be with one person she loved and spend her life with and that was too much to ask for? However, it does not give any parent the right to murder their child just because they have given birth to or because they are related. Our government needs to give Justice, it needs to be changed, otherwise for God’s sake who knows how many more women will be killed for this reason. Jassi’s case should get the justice because if it doesn’t it will set a precedent in the future. Which means more parents will be able to take their daughters/sisters to another country to kill if they don’t abandon their rules. We as Canadians need to have same rights for protection as anyone else in Canada if we are killed/murdered anywhere in the world. Rests in Peace…Jassi…God bless!!

It seems to me that the RCMP's reluctance to prosecute Jassi's mother and uncle has more to do with votes. The question is who instructed the RCMP not to proceed with the investigation? Five years of non-circumstantial evidence and no action at all.

I would guess that it is the men who try to instruct women who to vote for in much of the Sikh community. The government doesn't want to antagonize the men and the patriarchal structure or they will lose votes.

Not prosecuting these murderers sends a sinister message to young Sikh women that they can be killed and the Canadian authorities will do nothing.

The RCMP and the Minister of Justice must act now to prosecute Jassi's murderers.
