Spinning wheelThe Spinning Wheel Film Festival celebrates the stories of Sikhs worldwide, and brings diverse interpretations of their culture, identity and history in various art forms.

In earlier times, as villagers gathered around a spinning wheel—the charkha—to spin and weave, this also provided an opportunity to share their joys, their sorrows and their stories.

Likewise, the SWFF is a gathering place for young artists, filmmakers and their audiences to explore the diverse experiences of Sikhs in the global village.

As part of its mission, the SWFF is proud to present the Spinning Wheel Art and Literature Competition.

The focus of the competition is to inspire youth to pursue the arts. The subject of the artwork and literature must be based on Sikh values and/or ideals.

The art competition covers artworks like painting, sketch, photograph, sculpture and others. The literature competition focuses on creating works in prose, poetry, drama and the like.

The competitions will be judged on the ability to inspire, originality, creativity and quality of content.

There are two categories with respect to age and prize. The age category is 14-17 years and 18-30 years and the award for the categories is $1,000 and $2,000, respectively.
