The Scene: Tucked away in a little corner on No.3 road is a flavour-packed Singaporean eatery which has been cooking up sweet, sour and spicy Singaporean cuisine for the last ten years.
A hidden treasure, Kelong offers nothing less than a comfortable and cozy place to enjoy the best of Singapore.
"People do not come here for the decoration or for the atmosphere," says manager Becky Lam, "It's really about the food that has the people coming back. We have lots of customer referrals."
"Our food is very much similar to Malaysian food--lots of garlic, spices, coconut--spicy and hot but sweet and sour at the same time," Lam explains as she displays the menu with different deals, meals, specials and combination offers for customers.
Kelong offers a wide range of choices--"good for sampling many different dishes" as Lam says.
Among these, the dinner combinations for two, four or six are very popular. But then so is Kelong's selection of over 40 main dishes, rice or noodle and appetizers included.
Popular main dishes include Hainanese (boneless) chicken, favored for its tenderness, and Sambal chili dishes: chicken, egg, mussel, squid, prawn or fish.
Another well-liked sauce that provides delicious dishes is the Belachan which is a hot and spicy shrimp paste based sauce served with long beans, spinach or kang kong.
Aside from the ample space to talk, walk and eat with plenty of elbow room, the showcase of this 'little taste of Singapore' tucked away in Richmond is its menu. It has great dishes that serve thes best of authentic Singaporean cuisine--just as promised.
