The Scene: Enjoying the food at Montri's also means enjoying the stories behind some of their unique dishes. Aroy-D is a signature dish of the restaurant--meat/seafood is cooked in a sauce of curry, turmeric, lemon grass, peanuts and galangal, served on a bed of spinach. This dish was first made for the restaurant's staff. To everyone's delight, it was praised "Aroy-D" which means delicious in Thai. The name stuck and has been called that ever since. It is indeed delicious.

Among the fresh seafood section, do not be fooled by a dish named Drunken Prawns (or Pad Kee Mao Goong). The drunken ones are actually the diners. Traditionally, the dish is so spicy that it makes diners drink too much in attempts to drown the fire and as a result, become drunk. The prawns, however, are sauteed with ginger, chili paste, green onion and Thai basil.

Two curries that stand out at Montri are Mus-a-Mun and Jungle. Mus-a-Mun curry is chicken or beef cooked in Muslim-style curry and coconut milk with roasted peanuts, onions and potatoes. Jungle curry defies the rules of all curries--red curry paste with beef, chicken or pork cooked with mixed seasonal vegetables without coconut milk. Great for those who are health-conscious.

While you enjoy your meal Montri, himself, is very happy to tell you everything you want to know about Thailand. From the food to the hospitality, you will certainly get a taste of Thailand from Montri's Thai.
