Re: Taser death

The RCMP should stop using the Tasers. They are dangerous weapons and have killed many people. So far there are more than 200 people who have died from this "non-lethal weapon," but the cops keep using it as if it were a toy.  Robert Dziekanski could have easily been tackled without the use of the Taser. But the cops had it and used it.
If they did not have it, they could not use it.

Everything went terribly wrong for Robert Dziekanski.
I feel terrible for the Dziekanski family. But before we rush to blame the RCMP officers, who were doing their job to restrain a violent man, let us get all the facts first. We also have to feel sorry for the officers who were involved as they have to live with their actions for the rest of their lives.

As a former police officer, I recommend that only senior officers with more than 10 years experience be given Tasers. When I looked at the video and saw the young cops zap Robert Dziekanski, the first thing that came to my mind was why they did not talk to him or offer him a glass of water or something. These guys were tasered up and did not want to get dirty tackling this unarmed man. When I was on the beat, we got some bloody noses but that's part of the job.

Re: The marijuana trade

Your article sheds a poor light on the Vietnamese community in BC. Having said that why are police not catching the criminals and deporting them.  I am of Vietnamese origin, live and work in Vancouver. If police know of these so called family units, go after them. What use is this "police intelligence" if it cannot be used to enforce the law.

Legalise it and tax it. This way new immigrants have another source of income and we will all be the happier as the money will churn in our economy.

Re: Editorial: NDP wags the dog

Your paper seems to have become a mouthpiece for Gordon Campbell's Liberals. What Carole James and the NDP are doing is leveling the playing field. Just look at the BC Legislature and compare it to what you see on Vancouver streets. It is like two different countries. Our political machine is not reflective of the society we live in. The NDP is trying to fix that.

Affirmative action does not work. It does not take two wrongs to make one right. What the NDP is planning to do is stack ethnic candidates in some ridings to cash in on communal politics. Let the best man or woman run and let the local constituency association decide on the candidates.

Re: Canada-style parole system for Malaysia

Malaysia will be well advised to see the how the Canadian parole system does not work. The parole system is responsible for a multitude of repeat offenders. Don't copy our system Malaysia.
