Ay-Laung’s high notes

Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra artistic advisor Ay-Laung Wang is an active recitalist whose superb musicianship, excellent technique, and great personal charm make her a favorite with audiences and congregations wherever she performs. 



She graduated from Trinity Western University where she excelled in her piano and conducting studies.  While at Trinity Western University, she served with distinction as the assistant conductor to the TWU choirs. 


She continued her studies at UBC receiving a Masters of Music with top standing in organ performance.   She also holds performer and teacher ARCT diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto.


Ay-laung is a musician with a wide range of accomplishments.  She has conducted the largest Taiwanese choir in Vancouver.  She has pleased thousands of people at many large churches throughout B.C. with her spirited, energetic style of playing.  In 1995, the Taiwanese National Music Committee named her the New Musical Star.


Other highlights of her career include performing with professional orchestras such as the VSO, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, CBC Radio Brass, Taipei National University of the Arts Orchestra and the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra.


She performed and served as a jury member at the International Kathaumixw Choral Festival 2006 as well as performed at Taiwan National Concert Hall, Mission's Fest, Festival Vancouver and at the Vatican with the Taipei Christian Children's chorus. 


Concert tours have taken her to Australia, New Zealand, Eastern and Western Europe several times, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. 


Ay-Laung had the honour of performing for a renowned Taiwanese composer on national television as well as being featured on Vancouver television and radio. 


Presently, Ay-Laung is a highly esteemed faculty member at Trinity Western University, a reputable piano instructor, the assistant conductor for the TWU Chamber and Concert choirs. the organist at First Baptist Church in downtown Vancouver. 


She is a member of "Fanfares N' Fugues", a dynamic organ/trumpets ensemble.  Ay-Laung was on CBC Television for the Easter Sunrise Celebration in 2004 and for the memorial service for Sergeant "Smokey Smith".  She is also proud to play for David C. Lam Christian Hymn Society.
