Couple explores cultural harmony

Their love of music has taken them on tours all over the world with award-winning groups like Silk Road Music, ASZA, Cordes en Folie and JouTou.



Over the past 15 years they have performed in many different venues, including the Montreal Jazz Festival, a BBC recital in England, the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, hundreds of schools in North America, UBC and SFU in Vancouver, and countless community concert series.


Qiu Xia He (“chu sha her”) is a virtuoso Chinese pipa performer, recording artist, composer and producer who is changing and enhancing the musical world around her.


Based in Vancouver,  she collaborates with the world’s best musicians and hangs out on the cutting edge of cross-cultural fusions of world music.


While creating exciting sounds and rhythms that simply haven’t been heard before, she also makes the world a better place through her musical brilliance, warmth and charming presence.

Andre Thibault is a brilliant guitarist, whose fiery rhythms and stunning technique are drawn from a unique blend of Flamenco and Moorish traditions coloured with jazz, classical, and world music.


Andre is equally at home on a wide variety of stringed instruments, flutes and percussive instruments collected from around the world.


Montreal-born and raised, Andre has been a key player on the West Coast world-music scene for more than 20 years.


He has participated in many award-winning projects. In addition to numerous individual projects and collaborations, Andre currently performs with the innovative Jou Tou and Silk Road Music, where his many instruments add new sounds and colour to their repertoire.


Silk Road Duo is set to perform on Feb 10 (Sunday) at 10:30 am at Dr Sun Yat-Sen Garden Courtyard located at 578 Carrall Street.
