Kwantlen designers unveil new collections

With a degree in biopsychology, Katherine Chu embarked on another educational journey in 2002, this time to pursue fashion design and technology at the Kwatlen University College.

For the last few years, Chu dabbled in the local fashion scene, her Lineate line of clothing featured in shows such as the Vancouver Fashion Week, John Casablancas and Apparel BC.

She also did designs for the Miss Chinese Vancouver pageants in 2004 and 2005.

In the spring of 2005, she spent a semester at an art and design school in Helsinky, Finland.

Chu is ready to make her mark. On March 29, she and 20 other graduating designers from Kwantlen will unveil their collections in three fashion shows to be held at the River Rock Casino Show Theatre in Richmond.

"The caliber of workmanship and innovation in all collections is remarkable. Be the first to witness the new style revolution," she says.

Chu’s collection dubbed Matka, which hints of Scandinavian aesthetics and functionality, will feature clothing for women backpackers traveling on budget who want to look priceless.

Kwantlen boasts of the only Bachelor of Applied Design in Fashion Design and Technology degree in Western Canada.

The March 29 fashion shows will be at 1 pm, 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
