Managers, step forward

Kwantlen University College is pleased to announce the Kwantlen Executive Management and Leadership Programs, which will be part of the university’s new Executive Management and Leadership Centre.

“These programs are the result of a decision by Kwantlen to develop high-quality, professional programs to meet the growing need in BC for qualified and experienced managers, leaders and other professionals,” says Kwantlen President Skip Triplett.

The Kwantlen Executive Management and Leadership Programs are designed for managers and leaders from businesses and other organizations, who want to develop their professional competencies. To accommodate busy professionals, the classes will be held Fridays and Saturdays.

Classes in the Kwantlen Executive Management and Leadership Programs will begin in September at the university’s Surrey Campus.

“All organizations, businesses of various sizes, as well as academic, community and not-for-profit organizations, face constantly rising expectations of their managers and leaders both in regard to competence and experience,” says David Ross, Kwantlen’s Vice President of Administration and Student Services. “This is especially so, given the dramatic changes almost all successful organizations are experiencing on a week-by-week basis.

“We are taking this opportunity to specialize in Executive Management and Leadership Programs that will be both strongly grounded in applied research, as well as tailored to the practical needs and requirements of the businesses and organizations in this region,” says Ross.

The new programs build on Kwantlen’s commitment to lifelong learning and skill development and its demonstrated expertise in providing management and leadership training.

“We continue to work very proactively with the businesses and organizations in our region to ensure a program which is highly integrated with, and applied to the demands they face,” says Gordon Farrell, Kwantlen’s Director of Business Development and continuing studies professional programming. “The Kwantlen Executive Management and Leadership programs will be carefully focused on the practical and applied needs that organizations face on a daily basis,”

The Kwantlen Executive Management and Leadership programs are the result of a five-year partnership between the university and Vancouver-based Loewen Consulting Group (LCG) to deliver executive education courses and programs.

“This agreement and these programs are an important step in our goal to establish a viable Centre for Management and Executive Education,” says Farrell. “We look forward to working with Vern Loewen and his associates.”

“We are already having discussions with businesses and organizations in our communities to develop innovative programs. This could include management and leadership programming tailored specifically for a given sector, and also to individual corporations and organizations,” adds Farrell.

Kwantlen has four campuses in Langley, Surrey, and Richmond, and offers undergraduate programming in its new White Rock location. As well, the $42-million Kwantlen Cloverdale Trades and Technology Centre is expected to open later this year.

Kwantlen University College's mission is to create an exceptional learning environment committed to preparing learners for leadership, service and success. Kwantlen became a university college with degree granting status in 1995; and has a mandate to develop and offer baccalaureate degrees that will prepare students for well paid, fulfilling careers.
