South Korea


Hanwha Group to build factory in Ontario
The Ontario government announced that South Korea's Hanwha Group will build a new $70 million manufacturing plant in London, Ontario. The new 200,000 sq. ft. facility will be the first in Canada for the company. The facility will supply retail outlets such as Rona and IKEA with HanStone Fine Quartz surfaces for kitchen countertops, vanities and other surfaces for residential and commercial uses.

CIBT to open new centre in Lianyungang City
Vancouver-based CIBT Education Group Inc. announced that its subsidiary, CIBT School of Business & Technology Corp., signed an agreement to establish a CIBT Vocational and Education Centre at the Lianyungang Teachers College in Lianyungang City, China. This new CIBT centre will deliver a variety of CIBT vocational and business management programs offered by CIBT and its subsidiary, Sprott-Shaw Community Colleges, and CIBT's US and Canadian academic partners. Programs planned for this location include English training, travel and tourism, digital arts and other business management programs.

Sapporo Beer adopts new business intelligence software
Sapporo Beer of Japan has adopted business intelligence software by Ottawa-based Cognos Inc. throughout its entire group of companies. The software will analyze sales data accumulated by various divisions and prepare reports for the executive team. It will also permit centralized data management and more rapid analysis of business trends. Cognos is a provider of business intelligence and performance management solutions.

Sangoma Technologies signs distribution partner
Markham-based Sangoma Technologies Corporation, a provider of pc-based telephony hardware and software products for proprietary and open source based networking and telephony solutions, announced that it has partnered with PeopleTech of India, a provider of open source technology services and solutions, to expand distribution of Sangoma's telephony and data cards throughout India. The distribution agreement also includes Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan. PeopleTech will provide a sales channel and first line of support for Sangoma's customers in India.

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts opens in Mumbai
Toronto-based Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts announced that it will open its new hotel in Mumbai on March 1 -- the company's first property in India. The hotel has 202 guest rooms and is located in Worli, the city's financial district.

Tokyo to host Canadian Beef technical seminar
The Canada Beef Export Federation (CBEF) will conduct a Canada Beef Technical Seminar for 150 guests in Tokyo on January 29. Targeting the retail and food service industries, the event aims to make developers of beef products aware of the qualities of Canadian beef. This year's seminar, the second in two years, will focus on steak and 'short plate' beef. Speakers at the seminar will include CBEF executives.

Canadian showcases technology  at Next Generation Mobile exhibit
The Canadian Embassy in Tokyo is joining forces again this year with the Inter-Embassies IT & Mobile Forum (IEMF) for a two-day wireless seminar and exhibition entitled 'Next Generation Mobile Technologies Showcase 2008' April 17 and 18 at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo. This event will showcase wireless companies from IEMF member countries and provide participants with the opportunity to present their technology and products to the membership of the Mobile Computing Promotion Consortium, including technicians and decision-makers from Japan's leading IT and mobile communications companies.
