A festival of Filipino pride

With its theme, “Taas Noo Kahit Kanino, Ang Pilipino Ay Ako!”, Filipino pride will take centre stage at the the biggest annual Philippine Independence Day celebration in British Columbia.
The day-long celebration focuses on the Filipino community’s pride for its ethnicity, arts, values and rich cultural heritage.
It will take place on Sunday, June 12, 2011, commencing at 9:00 am at its official venue, the Waterfront Park, North Vancouver.
As the third largest visible minority in the province, and currently topping migration statistics, well above the Chinese and South Asians, the Filipino community is easily becoming the focus of political attention, and the Filipinos’ hardworking attitude gaining a lot of praise and recognition from all industry sectors.
No doubt, with these developments, the organizer foresees a bigger turnout this year than the more than 9,000 attendees drawn in the 2010 celebration.
In promoting a spirit of national pride and unity, all Filipino-Canadians attending the celebration this year are requested to bring their “Barong” (for male), and appropriate Philippine costume (for female), and wear them to participate in the formal opening ceremony when the two colors (flags of Canada and the Philippines) are ushered in and the national anthems of both countries are played and sung. All Filipinos, business professionals, and members of Filipino organizations, wearing their national costume will highlight the opening program of the celebration.
Also this year, three sets of fantastic raffle prizes are up for grabs to lucky ticket holders. This early, various sponsors and interested stall holders are already submitting their applications to be part of the celebration.
