This was a planned shoot and Tukwila is a model from Seattle. Yes, Tukwila is her real name (it means “land of hazelnuts” in Coastal Salish). I met her and her husband Leonard at Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) in October. Tukwila "walked" for several designers during the Spring/Summer show. Saturday night they were in Vancouver for VFW's Fall/Winter show.  We met purely by chance at a coffee shop. We had a quick chat and agreed to shoot Sunday morning. However, she had three hours before she was due at VFW for hair & makeup. We spent two hours shopping where we frantically mixed and matched a dozen pieces. We all liked the skirt Leonard found then I picked everything else. We all felt it had smart, classy and “Springy” look. With an hour left we raced to the “sidewalk” to begin shooting.  Incidentally, Tukwila is a modern day renaissance woman. In addition of being an independent model, she has a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts for dance, she leads a small dance troupe and she’s Owner of a green friendly cleaning company.
