New fusion Korean restaurant in Yaletown

Taboo Kitchen in Yaletown is a great choice for happy hour. The Korean fusion restaurant opened in early November, and offers great $4 happy hour deals on certain drinks like beer, cocktails and wine.
The interior is very nice and they have a long table to accommodate large groups. For our first visit, we focused on tapas, but I did notice that the entrees were expensive.
We started with the complimentary sampler of kimchi, sweet potato and pickled radish. At Korean restaurants, complimentary side dishes are provided as an indication of good service. The sampler was presented nicely and gave us a taste of their food.
For drinks, we tried the Apple Sojutini ($4), which was quite strong and just what my friends wanted. Red Truck Lager ($4) was on special too. To compliment our drinks, we tried the Prawn Mayo, which has wasabi, fried capers, and rice crackers with the deep-fried prawns. There was a delicious texture created by the rice cakes and salty capers. As for the prawns, they were a bit bland and could have used more of the wasabi sauce.
The Tuna Rising Sun has chojang, endive, and sweet potato on the bottom. Each endive has spicy tuna and spicy sauce. It was very good and offered a nice twist for a fusion dish. The Korean Spicy Chicken Wings came with a pickled radish slaw and yuja cream, and were excellent.
Overall, it’s a nice place to go after work to have a drink and snacks. I love traditional Korean food, but the food they offer here is quite different, but still good.
