New menu tasting at Pearl Castle Cafe

By Grace Cheung,
Special to The Post

After a long hiatus, we revisited Pearl Castle Cafe. We had new bubble teas, rice and hot pot dishes. The three new drinks are Sunset Love, the Blue Sky, and the Young Girl's Dream.
The little Taiwanese Sausages could go really well with a beer. The appetizer Wonton with Chili Sauce was dry and the skins, thick, and a bit underdone.
The Fried Tofu, is battered and deep fried. I liked the Abalone Mushroom which light breading and juicy mushroom. The Fried Fish Cake had a bouncy texture. None of the fried dishes were overly oily.
The Milk Seafood & Pork Hot Pot is a comforting dish.
The Three-Cup Chicken refers to the three sauce ingredients (sesame oil, Chinese rice wine, and soy sauce) that are used in equal amounts.
The Abalone Mushroom Braised with Three Spices dish was really juicy.
The Garlic Sauce Chicken has lots of garlic.
Kimchi Seafood Fried Udon was not too spicy and loaded with seafood. It was more sour and spicy.
Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup has a pleasant blend of flavours.
The Spicy Incense Pot is has seafood and veggies and packs a punch with those chilies.
The Pineapple Shrimp Fried Rice was tasty.
The Milk Seafood & Pork Hot Pot has mild flavours. For those who are not a fan of curries, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
The Marinated Chicken with Rice is a one-pot wonder.
The Marinated Pork with Rice is similarly satisfying.
Many patrons of Pearl Castle Cafe have a short list of their favourites but with the addition of these new dishes, give them a revisit and you might find a new favourite!
