Readers response: Vancouver's future wedded to the Chinese Communist Party

I'm sure that now the bubble has burst, mansions will be on sale for a fraction of their original price and all the so-called, "wealthy" Chinese will be heading for greener pastures. Hong Kong is still the place most of them live and do business. You will notice the fact that many mansions around the city sit empty and unattended for months on end? Vancouver is a convenient location to launder their money. Just because they purchase property here doesn't mean they want to live here. If the bubble bursts, prices will fall, but my feeling is that it will be the luxury market that is hardest hit.

Mr. Clarke, you're wrong. They are not people from Hong Kong. They are from the communist China... They do biz thru corruption. Some of these people are the high ranking government officers and their relatives and If I mistresses. Thru these 30 years of economy, the ones with political influences pocket government funding, selling the country's land, mineral, coal, oil, etc, and holding the all the electricity and telecommunications etc. among the élite. After their taking Hong Kong over, Hong Kong people suffer the Communist China harassments to their society and they are struggling with them both politically and economically in their daily lives. Some Hong Kong people are now living in a rental cubicle of 4x8 - a flat shared by 10-20 persons and paying C$300 for this tiny cubical, but the wealthy Chinese buy the condominium in Hong Kong with C$2,000.- per sq foot. These are the facts right now in Hong Kong. Now Vancouver's market is catching up.

A remarkable insight into several hard truths about not only life today but in the future for Vancouver and its residents.

Kudos to Manthorpe for busting through political correctness and laying the truth on the line.

This is the most thorough, unbiased and logical article on the topic of un-affordable Real Estate in the Vancouver area I have seen so far. I just wish the morons in power could be forced to do something for the people that live and work in Vancouver before it is too late. Keep up the great work Manthorpe. #keepbchomeslocal #donthave1million.

We should not borrow money from chinese millionaires in exchange for citizenship. We should do the heavy lifting ourselves. It's a very near sighted policy and bad for Canada.
– Kevin Lucks

The baby boomers, (BTW mostly caucasian) who's generation outsourced jobs to China because of simple greed, created these laws or lackthereof, that allow this Chinese Money Laundering, are the main cause of this Vancouver Mess.
They who now profit and have profited for over 25 years of selling their 65 000 Dollar homes and their souls, for now worth 1.5 million, to Mainland Chinese, and in the 80's and 90's to Hong Kong Chinese, should not be forgotten for their part in creating this mess.
They (Canadian/Vancouver baby booomers) are the main cause. The mainland Chinese money laundering described in this article, is the effect.

The Communist Party has a Top 100 Wanted hunting list for corruption for Canada, USA, Australia, etc. Some on this list are now in Canada and using Canadian taxpayers money to seek asylum!
