Sidewalk Runway: Iliana Rosabal

A couple Saturdays ago, Cache Couture Atelier Founder and Creative Director Iliana Rosabal showcased her spring/summer collection. In doing so, she gave students, brides-to-be and women in general many exquisite gown options for graduation ceremonies, proms, weddings and glitzy events. Her annual fashion show showcased her spring/summer collection.

Before the show, I was invited backstage. A small army of Dressers (students from Blanche Macdonald) stood attentively next to several clothing racks. Oksana and Laszlo, Iliana’s Seamstress and Tailor respectively described several gowns. Handmade fabric from Spain was used. Organza was used for the lavender gown shown below. While a sewing machine was used sparingly each dress was hand sewn. Up close the beading and hand detailing was amazing.

Along the runway, guests were treated to drinks and appetizers from the Lazy Gourmet. Local Broadcasting Host and Producer Mana Mansour kicked off the show and 42 gowns glided down the runway. While it wasn’t easy to pick four gowns, my favorites are shown below.

Iliana and her team make custom gowns that are meant to last a lifetime. This is in sharp contrast to today’s “Here today, gone tomorrow” fashion philosophy. Through consultation and fitting appointments a custom gown can be brought to life. In addition to bridal gowns, prom dresses and evening gowns, Iliana also offers mother of the bride and bridesmaid dresses. However, if your need is temporary, they do offer rental options.

Cache Couture is located at 2329 Granville St. (near W. 8th Ave).
