Xavier University begins construction on new campus

Xavier University School of Medicine recently held its foundation stone laying ceremony for its new campus.

Xavier’s new campus will sit on over 15 acres of land. Once completed the entire campus will feature a housing complex, dining facilities, sport courts and a full state of the art academic block and research facilities.

Xavier University School of Medicine’s new campus will be a multiphase project. Construction started in April of 2019 and Phase 1 will open in July of 2020, comprising a 3 story student housing complex, dining facilities, sport courts, and site infrastructure.

Phase 2, expected to begin in the next 6 months consists of a full state of the art academic block including lecture halls, labs, modern auditorium, computer labs and conference rooms and research facilities. Additional housing will be added in future years.

Phase 1 will consist of over a 20 million USD investment. The entire New Campus will see an investment of over approximately 60 million USD to complete and is expected to be completed in January of 2022.

 

President Ravishankar Bhooplapur was joined by The Honorable Danguillaume Oduber, Aruba Minister of Health, Tourism, and Sports and The Honorable Dr. Armando R. Lampe, Aruba Minister of Education, Science, & Sustainable Development for the performing of the foundation stone laying. President Bhooplapur and board of trustee members, Dr. J.G. Bhat, Mr. Edwin Casey, Mr. Frank Croes, Dr. P. K. Prahalad and Dr. Ravindra Kota were honored to be joined by; Mr. Juan E. Thijsen, President of the Aruba Parliament and Mr. Alan Howell, Vice President of the Aruba Parliament, as well as many other Members of the Aruba Parliament and other distinguished guests.

Xavier Chancellor Dr. J.G. Bhat addressed the audience during the ceremony and spoke about the growth and development of the University over the past decade. Xavier President Ravishankar Bhooplapur spoke about the growing need for quality physicians and thanked the Government of Aruba for their continued support and hospitality, and Aruba Investment Bank (AIB) for their efforts in helping to finance this project.
